They lost to Bangladesh by 25 runs after conceding 128/3 in six overs and managing 103/6 in reply. Van Schalkwyk scored 28 off nine balls in the semi-final, while Bayoumy struck 38 off 10 deliveries. 

South Africa will be led by Jorich van Schalkwyk and have been grouped with Oman and Afghanistan. Van Schalkwyk, Bayoumy and Blake Simpson return from last year's campaign, giving the side some continuity. Their opening clash against Oman will be important in setting the tone for their group-stage campaign. 

Van Schalkwyk is South Africa's key batter after finishing as their leading run-scorer in the 2025 edition with 122 runs in four innings at an average of 40.67 and a strike rate of 321.05. Bayoumy also made an impact, scoring 55 runs and taking four wickets to finish as the team's leading wicket-taker. Simpson contributed 31 runs and took two wickets last year. Steve Stolk, a member of the current squad, adds another aggressive batting option.

Oman Preview

Oman will be gearing up for the debut at the Hong Kong Sixes after enjoying a memorable campaign in the 2024 edition, when they won the Bowl competition by defeating England in the final. England posted 123 runs in six overs, but Oman chased down the target with one ball to spare. Asif Khan remained unbeaten on 47 off 17 balls, while captain Vinayak Shukla smashed 38 off 12 balls. However, Oman did not feature in the 2025 edition. 

Led by Syed Aamir Kaleem, Oman have been drawn in Group D alongside South Africa and Afghanistan. The squad also includes Shafiq Jan, Usman Ali, Zohaib Amanat, Sami Hassan, Akbar Ali and Muhammad Muzahir. Oman's previous title in the Bowl competition demonstrated their ability to recover from early setbacks. 

Captain Aamir Kaleem will be one of Oman's key players. In the 2026 Men's T20 World Cup, he scored 61 runs off 42 balls and took one wicket. He has 779 T20I runs and 49 T20I wickets. Zohaib Amanat is another player to watch after showing promising form in domestic cricket, including scores of 46 off 25 balls and 29 off 22 balls in recent T20 matches.
