New Zealand A and India A will meet in the first unofficial Test of the India A Tour of New Zealand 2026 at the Bert Sutcliffe Oval in Lincoln.

This is a shadow tour running alongside New Zealand's senior tour, giving players from both sides a chance to prepare for next month's senior Test series.

New Zealand A are coming into this game after a tough tour of Sri Lanka in April. They lost the two-match first-class series by 1-0 and were swept 3-0 in the one-day series. They have also failed to win any of their last 3 A-team matches. Dean Foxcroft will be an important player for them after scoring 98 on his Test debut this year, while Jacob Duffy and Nathan Smith will lead the pace attack.

India A, meanwhile, had a decent outing against Australia A in Puducherry last month. They won the first Test by 162 runs, while the second game ended in a draw. They did lose the ODI series by 2-1, though. The squad has plenty of experience, with senior players like Yashasvi Jaiswal, KL Rahul, Devdutt Padikkal and Washington Sundar in the mix. Dhruv Jurel will lead the side.

The two teams last met in India in 2022, when India A won the three-match series by 1-0. They'll be looking to carry that record forward, while New Zealand A will hope to turn things around this time.

India A Preview

New Zealand A come into this series after a disappointing tour of Sri Lanka in April, where they lost the first-class series by 1-0 and were beaten by 3-0 in the one-day series. They have won just one of their last five A-team matches. Cole McConchie will lead the side, and playing at home in Lincoln, they will be keen to put that tour behind them and make a fresh start.

New Zealand A will be counting on Dean Foxcroft to deliver with the bat. He scored 98 on his Test debut against Ireland in Belfast in May this year. Muhammad Abbas was their top scorer in the one day series in Sri Lanka, finishing with 132 runs.

Wicketkeeper Mitch Hay was also part of the A squad on that tour, while captain Cole McConchie brings valuable experience to the middle order after playing white-ball cricket for New Zealand. The batters will need to step up against a strong Indian attack, especially in the first couple of days.

New Zealand A have a strong pace attack, with several bowlers who have already played Test cricket. Jacob Duffy has taken 25 wickets in just 4 Tests at an impressive average of 16.28, including 3 five-wicket hauls. Nathan Smith has picked up 34 wickets in 8 Tests at an average of 25.26, with best figures of 6 for 40.

Matthew Fisher also has good memories against India A, having taken 4 for 52 in Bengaluru in 2022, while Michael Rae adds more experience to the pace attack. Michael Rippon gives the side another option with his left-arm wrist-spin. With a fresh pitch in Lincoln, New Zealand A will expect their seamers to do most of the damage early on.

Key Players: Dean Foxcroft, Jacob Duffy, Nathan Smith

India A Predicted Playing XI:

Henry Cooper, Mitch Hay (wk), Muhammad Abbas, Dean Foxcroft, Nick Kelly, Cole McConchie (c), Michael Rippon, Nathan Smith, Jacob Duffy, Matthew Fisher, Michael Rae

New Zealand A Preview

India A come into this match after a good outing against Australia A in Puducherry last month. They won the unofficial Test series but lost the one-day series 2-1. Dhruv Jurel will lead a strong squad that includes several senior Test players. India A also won the last series between these two sides in India in 2022, and they will be looking to carry that confidence into this tour and start with a win.

India A have plenty of quality in their batting line-up. KL Rahul brings a lot of experience, having scored 4288 runs in 70 Tests. He also made 82 in the Galle Test against Sri Lanka in August.

Yashasvi Jaiswal has been consistent at the top, scoring 2612 runs in 31 Tests at an average of 47.49, including 7 centuries. Devdutt Padikkal was in excellent touch in Sri Lanka, scoring 167 in the first Test and 117 in the second. Sai Sudharsan also chipped in with 57 against Australia A in Puducherry last month.

Captain Dhruv Jurel scored an unbeaten 115 in the Colombo Test in August, while Kumar Kushagra smashed 113 in the first unofficial Test against Australia A. With so many batters in good form, India A will be hoping to put up a big first-innings total.

India A have a strong bowling attack with a good mix of pace and spin. Akash Deep has taken 28 wickets in 10 Tests, including a ten-wicket match haul against England last year. He returns to the side after recovering from a back injury and will be keen to make an impact. Washington Sundar adds value with both bat and ball. He has taken 36 wickets in 17 Tests, with best figures of 7 for 59, and has also scored a Test century.

Anshul Kamboj impressed against Australia A in Puducherry, dismissing Nathan McSweeney and Peter Handscomb on the final day to help India A win the match. Mukesh Kumar will also be an important option. He took 5 for 86 against New Zealand A in Bengaluru in 2022 and finished that series with 9 wickets.

Manav Suthar, who featured in the Sri Lanka Tests in August, gives the side another spin option. Overall, India A have plenty of depth in their bowling attack and will be looking to put the New Zealand batters under pressure from the start.

Key Players: Yashasvi Jaiswal, KL Rahul, Akash Deep

New Zealand A Predicted Playing XI:

Yashasvi Jaiswal, Sai Sudharsan, KL Rahul, Devdutt Padikkal, Dhruv Jurel (c), Kumar Kushagra (wk), Washington Sundar, Manav Suthar, Akash Deep, Anshul Kamboj, Mukesh Kumar

Weather Conditions

The weather in Lincoln looks good for the first two days, with plenty of sunshine and temperatures around 26°C. Monday could get a bit tricky, though, with strong winds and a chance of showers later in the day.  So, the first couple of days should be fine, but rain could come into play on the final day and lead to some lost playing time.

IND A vs NZA Pitch Report

The last 10 first-class matches at Bert Sutcliffe Oval have seen an average first-innings score of 310 runs. Teams chasing have won 2 games, while the side batting first has won just one. The other 7 matches ended in draws, so batters could get plenty of time to settle in and put up big scores at this venue.

Score Prediction (1st Innings)

If New Zealand A first innings: 270-320 runs
If India A first innings:
300-350 runs

Toss: To Bowl

Both captains will have a close look at the conditions on the first morning in Lincoln. The pitch could offer some help to the seamers early on, and both teams have the pace attack to make the most of it. The captain winning the toss may still opt to bat first, look to put up a big total and put the opposition under pressure.

Toss Prediction: India A to win the coin toss

India A enter this clash as clear favourites to secure the win. The visitors possess superior squad depth and considerable international pedigree across both departments, with a seasoned batting lineup capable of building massive totals and an experienced bowling attack that consistently strikes in all conditions.

While New Zealand A will lean on home conditions and a competitive pace attack with the new ball, their recent form has been unconvincing, having secured just one victory in their last five fixtures. If India A navigate the early seam movement and allow their top order to settle, their superior class, balance, and all-round consistency should see them take control and claim the match.

India A to win the match.
