CSA Four-Day Series Division Two is back for another season. This year it will be played in a 3-day format. The first three matches of the season all ended in a draw.

Limpopo delivered a strong bowling performance in their opening game of the season, bowling out Border for just 207 runs in the first innings in Polokwane.

Skipper Ernest Kemm delivered a brilliant all-round performance and will be one to watch. While Northern Cape will kick off their season with this match, they will be confident after outplaying Limpopo last season at the latter’s home ground.

While they don’t have Ronan Hermann, the captain of the side in their previous encounter against Limpopo, Northern Cape have retained their top order, which featured Tristan van Rensburg, Tahir Isaacs, and Nonelela Yikha, who were instrumental in helping the side earn the upper hand in the contest.

Will Lesego Kokohlabana and Ernest Kemm pose a tough challenge to Northern Cape's mighty batting lineup? Or will the familiarity with the conditions give the hosts the edge over Limpopo?

Northern Cape Preview

Northern Cape will find a new captain for the 2026-27 season. Along with a new skipper, they will also need someone to fill the role of the number 4 batter. It was the former skipper Ronan Hermann who led Northern Cape to a stunning 7-wicket victory in their last home game with a big hundred.

Opening batters Tristan van Rensburg and Benjamin Van Rensburg will be ones to watch in this match. These two need to get them off to a strong start. Considering this will be a 3-day match, a quick start at the top will be crucial for both sides.

Bowling all-rounders Romano Terblanche and Ruan Van Rooyen will add depth to the batting order. They must step up and deliver some crucial runs, especially in the absence of Morne Venter, a reliable number 5 batter who scored fifty in their previous encounter against Limpopo.

As Northern Cape look to replace number 4 and 5 from last year, we expect them to have two wicket-keeper batters in the side. Gerhardus Maree is a good batting option at number 5, and for number 4, they can choose between Steve Stolk and Liam Doherty.

In the bowling attack, all-rounder Tshepo Ntuli is the key wicket-taker. He was the top performer with the ball in their previous home win against South Western Districts. Romano Terblanche and Odirile Modimokoane are other key wicket-takers in the squad who were quite consistent with the ball last season.

Interesting Stats

Tshepo Ntuli picked up 6 wickets against Limpopo last year and a fifer in the first innings of their last home game

Nonelela Yikha scored a hundred in his previous encounter against Limpopo and was unbeaten on 111 runs at this venue

Northern Cape Predicted Playing XI:

Tristan van Rensburg (c), Tahir Isaacs (wk), Nonelela Yikha, Gerhard Maree, Liam Doherty, Tshepo Ntuli, Odirile Modimokoane, Charl Prinsloo, Romano Terblanche, Johannes van Dyke, Ruan Van Rooyen

Northern Cape Actual Playing XI:

Kyle Jacobs, Nonelela Yikha, Tshepo Ntuli, Blake Simpson, Romano Terblanche, Gerhardus Jacobus Maree, Tahir Isaacs, Odirile Modimokoane, Johannes Van Dyk, Hernus Marais, Christopher Ford

Limpopo Impalas Preview

Limpopo are off to a steady start with a draw in their first match of the CSA Three-Day Division Two 2026-27. They finished at the bottom of the points table last year with no wins to their name and 4 losses from 6 games.

All four of their loss were by an innings defeat. The only drawn game of the last season came against Border. And that was also the only game where Limpopo crossed the 350-run mark. They managed to cross the 300-run mark only twice, including their first outing of the season, which they lost to Eastern Storm.

Tylor Trenoweth will be seeking a new opening partner this season in the absence of Ludwig Kaestner, the centurion from their drawn match against Border. Kaestner was one of their best batters last year, scoring 2 fifties and a hundred from his 9 innings.

Ernest Kemm, the captain for Limpopo this year, is the new opening partner for Trenoweth. He scored a fifty in both innings of the last match. While Limpopo bowled out the opposition cheaply in their opening game of the season, their batting wasn’t great.

Limpopo managed to score just 233 runs in their first innings, taking a small 26-run lead. Abdullah Bayoumy will be one to watch out for in the lower order. While there are plenty of new faces in the squad this year, Christoffer Klijnhans remains part of the middle order.

Irvin Modimokoane, Ernest Kemm, and Lesego Kokohlabana are the key wicket-takers in the bowling attack. They are in fine rhythm and will be confident after their recent performance against Border.

Interesting Stats

Kemm scored 61 in both innings of their opening game and picked up 4 wickets in the second innings

Lesego Kokohlabana also picked up 6 wickets in the match, a 3-fer in both innings

Limpopo Impalas Predicted Playing XI:

Ernest Kemm (c), Tylor Trenoweth, Christoffel Klijnhans, Abdullah Bayoumy, Irvin Modimokoane, Keenan Vieira, Shelton Ngobeni (wk), Atwell Mokgoloboto, Don Radebe, Lesego Kokohlabana, Ximus du Plooy

Limpopo Impalas Actual Playing XI:

Liam Peters, Marcello Piedt, Ernest Kemm, Tylor Trenoweth, Christoffel Klijnhans, Abdullah Bayoumy, Irvin Modimokoane, Shelton Ngobeni, Atwell Mokgoloboto, Jacobus Du Plooy, Tom Mayes

Weather Conditions

It will be partly sunny in Kimberley with a high of 21 degrees Celsius on day 1 of this 3-day match. However, there is rain forecast on the second and third days of this match. The final day is forecast to have light rain, while the second day will have a rain shower. This means that we will lose plenty of overs and a draw seems likely.

NCAPE vs LPI Pitch Report

It is a bowling-friendly wicket at the Diamond Oval in Kimberley. Last season, bowlers dominated at this venue, except for one innings in which the Rhinos scored 463 batting first. That was the only innings in which the batting team scored 300+ runs on this ground during the 2025-26 CSA 4-Day Division Two season. In this match, the team batting first should aim for around 320 runs to be in a strong position, given the weather conditions on days 2 and 3.

Toss: To Bat

The team batting first won just one of the 3 matches played here in the previous season, with one game ending in a draw. However, in this match's format, chasing a total on the 3rd day can put the team under pressure with the limited time on offer. Though there will not be a huge change in the playing conditions from the first day to the last, having runs on the board will still be a great strategy.

A draw is the more likely outcome in this match, with rain forecast for two of the three days. However, if we still get some cricket on both days, the bowlers will have the upper hand, and we will be looking at a low-scoring game at the Diamond Oval in Kimberley. As such, the hosts will have the upper hand given their familiarity with the conditions and their past record against Limpopo, who struggled with the bat in their last outing.
