In a league stage match, Jammu and Kashmir will take on Tamil Nadu in the group D game of the Vijay Hazare Trophy 2024 at Dr PVG Raju ACA Sports Complex, Vizianagaram on 28th December at 9 am IST. The Vijay Hazare Trophy is India’s premier domestic 50-over cricket tournament, organized by the BCCI. It features the country’s top domestic teams competing for the title.
The tournament follows a round-robin format, where teams face off against each other, followed by knockout stages to determine the champion. Both teams have played two games so far, but one match for each team has had no results. This is the third game for Tamil Nadu as well as Jammu and Kashmir.
In the last five completed games, Jammu and Kashmir have won only one game, that too against a weak team such as Mizoram. Jammu and Kashmir played two matches so far in Vijay Hazare Trophy 2024. The match against UP was abandoned due to rain and in their second game against Vidarbha, they suffered a huge defeat.
In the game against Vidarbha, Jammu and Kashmir lost the toss and batted first. They started well and were poised around 150 runs for three wickets by the end of 30th over. A platform they should have used to launch the attack in the end stages of the game and register a big first innings score. However, few quick wickets in the end stages saw them make just 221 all out in 45th over. Auqib Nabi showed some fight with 45 runs down the order. Earlier, Vivrant Sharma scored 63 runs opening the innings.
In defense, Jammu and Kashmir managed a couple of quick wickets in the first six overs, but they could not sustain the attack by Captain Karun Nair who scored a fabulous unbeaten century to help Vidarbha get over the line in the 38th over with six wickets remaining.
Vivrant Sharma and Shubham Khajuria are batting well for J&K scoring over 500 runs in last 10 matches. Aqib Nabi leads the bowling attack with 18 wickets in last 9 matches. While J&K did show some fight against Vidarbha, the comprehensive loss must have dented their confidence. They need to brush off the defeat and start well against Tamil Nadu.
Key players: Vivrant Sharma, Shubham Pundir, Auqib Nabi Dar, Abid Mushtaq

Just like J&K, Tamil Nadu's first game was also a washout against Chandigarh. However, they defeated Uttar Pradesh in the second game by a huge margin, getting those crucial four points, but more importantly, attaining a very good Net Run Rate.
In the game against Uttar Pradesh, which was shortened to 47 overs, Tamil Nadu lost the toss and batted first. Tamil Nadu did not start the batting well as they were 5 for 68 by the end of 23rd over. However, the unbeaten partnership Between Shahrukh Khan and Mohamad Ali helped Tamil Nadu post a big total of 284 runs in 47 overs. Shahrukh Khan remained not out on 132 of just 85 deliveries with 13 fours and 7 sixes whereas Mohamad Ali remained not out on 76 runs.
Tamil Nadu carried the momentum in the second innings, restricting Uttar Pradesh for just 170 runs in 33rd over. They dismissed six Uttar Pradesh batters for single digit scores. Sandeep Warrior, Varun Chakravarty, and Vijay Shankar all took two wickets each, helping Tamil Nadu win by a huge margin of 114 runs.
Baba Abrajit is the top batter for Tamil Nadu with over 400 runs in last 10 matches at an average close to 60. Tamil Nadu's bowling is quite superb with both Sai Kishore and Varun Chakravarty taking more than 20 wickets in last 10 matches. The confidence boosting win against a good team such as Uttar Pradesh would make Tamil Nadu believe that they can defeat J&K in this game.
Key players: Baba Indrajith, Varun Chakaravarthy, Sai Kishore, Shahrukh Khan

The weather on the match day at Dr PVG Raju ACA Sports Complex, Vizianagaram is expected to be pleasant with plenty of sunshine. The temperature will range between a high of 30°C and a low of 18°C. Some clouds are expected on the match day but there’s no chance of rain.
The venue of the match is Dr PVG Raju ACA Sports Complex, Vizianagaram. The stadium is managed by Andhra Cricket Institution and has been used mainly in Indian domestic tournaments such as Ranji Trophy and Vijay Hazare Trophy. It has yet to host an international Test match and is often used as a venue for warm-up matches for international tours. The stadium has a capacity of around 15,000 spectators.
The conditions at this venue seem to be favorable for batting in the initial stages, with conditions getting slower for batting as the match progresses. In the day matches, batting first is a better option here, as the pitch tends to be at its best early on. The team winning the toss should bat first here.
Tamil Nadu have three wins in last four completed games whereas Jammu and Kashmir have only one win in the last four completed games. Tamil Nadu are coming into this game after a huge win against Uttar Pradesh by 150 runs while J&K lost their previous game against Vidarbha by 6 wickets and about 8 overs to spare. We believe Tamil Nadu will have an upper hand over J&K in this game.
We predict that Tamil Nadu will defeat Jammu and Kashmir.
