Now, they’ll aim to wrap up the contest early and secure the series. For India, the challenge is steep against a side that thrives in home conditions. They’ll need something exceptional to turn things around. Right now, Australia head in as clear favourites.

A spirited innings from captain Mitchell Marsh, who struck 46 from 52 balls, along with an inspired effort by the bowlers, helped Australia secure a convincing victory in the first ODI. Chasing 131 in 26 overs, they made quick work of the target, as contributions from several batsmen made the chase appear effortless. The batting line-up looked deep and confident from beginning to end.
This batting order carries impact throughout. Apart from Marsh, the home side will also count on Travis Head, who has consistently delivered against India. Meanwhile, Matthew Short and Josh Philippe add a sense of steadiness to the middle order. Head and Marsh at the top can change the rhythm of a match within minutes, building pressure right away. Short steadies the flow and holds the innings together when needed, whereas Philippe and Matt Renshaw can lift the scoring rate dramatically during the later overs.
The bowlers did their part with precision. Josh Hazlewood was miserly in the first outing, giving away only 20 runs in seven overs and picking up two wickets. Mitchell Starc maintained his control, and the pair once again appear ready to test India’s opening batters.
Though Pat Cummins will not take part in this series, Nathan Ellis offers the same level of reliability and variation. In the spin department, Matthew Kuhnemann will play a leading role. His control and ability to use subtle changes of pace in the first ODI made him a genuine threat to India’s middle-order batters.
Travis Head Total Runs Over 33.5 1.83
Travis Head struggled to score runs in the last match and was dismissed for just 8. However, he is known to bounce back quickly and has a phenomenal record at the Adelaide Oval, where he has scored 301 runs in four matches, averaging a staggering 75.25, including one century. Given his record at Adelaide, we back Head to score over 33 runs in this fixture.
Josh Phillippe Total Runs Over 24.5 1.85
Josh Philippe played a nice cameo of 37 runs off 29 balls in the last match, smashing three fours and hitting two sixes. Philippe's good knock saved the Aussies and took them over the line. Though his position remains uncertain for the second ODI, if he features, Philippe is expected to perform well on a track where he has played most of his cricket, and we back him to continue his good run of form and score over 24 runs.

India were outplayed in the opening ODI, struggling for momentum on a lively Perth wicket and crawling to 136-9. The innings was in disarray at 45-4 until Axar Patel’s 31 from 38 balls and KL Rahul’s brisk 38 from 31 added some much-needed resistance. Without that partnership, the scoreboard might have looked far more one-sided.
For the next clash, the batting setup needs to display greater composure and rhythm. Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, and Shubman Gill—now leading the side—carry both reliability and flair at the top.
Rohit and Kohli, returning to white-ball action after a seven-month gap, will draw attention again after falling cheaply in Perth. Their past dominance in Australian conditions gives reason to expect a stronger outing this time.
The responsibility through the middle lies with Shreyas Iyer and KL Rahul, while the addition of Nitish Reddy lends depth and late-innings power to the lineup.
Among the quicks, Mohammed Siraj and Arshdeep Singh are likely to share the new ball. Siraj’s rhythm from Test matches has been excellent of late, and Arshdeep’s angle from the left side brings helpful variety.

Washington Sundar and Axar Patel formed the spin pair in the first game. Axar bowled tidily, but Sundar found little success. India might turn to Kuldeep Yadav, whose unpredictable turn could test the Australian batters on this surface.
Virat Kohli Total Runs Over 28.5 1.83
It was not an ideal start to an ODI series for Kohli on his comeback, as he was dismissed for an eight-ball duck, poking one outside the fifth stump. However, he would like to forget that and bounce back at a venue where he has fond memories, having scored 244 runs in four matches, averaging 61, with two centuries to his name. It is one of his favorite venues away from India, and we strongly believe Virat Kohli will turn up and dominate against the Australian bowlers, with his score predicted to be over 28 runs.

Early movement and bounce look likely at the Adelaide Oval, thanks to the coarse grass covering the drop-in pitch. As lights come on and the ball softens, batters who get through the powerplay without mishap can build well. Spinners will have a greater say in the later overs as the surface starts to grip and wear.
The weather in Adelaide is expected to be partly sunny and cloudy for most of the day.

Average Turn
The average score batting first at the Adelaide Oval is 232. For this game, a score of around 270 will put the team batting first in a healthy position.
Total Match Score Under 540.5 1.83
The pitch at Adelaide Oval offers a balanced track that favours both the batters and bowlers. The average 1st innings score is around 240-250 runs. Both teams boast strong and inform bowling lineups and on a track that favours the fast bowlers anything around 260 runs in the 1st innings could be match winning. We predict a moderate scoring match and the total match score to be under 541 runs.
India to Win the coin toss 1.95
We are backing India to win the coin toss against Australia in the 2nd ODI of India tour of Australia 2025 at the Adelaide Oval.
Four of the last five ODIs played at Adelaide Oval have gone to side batting second, indicating clearly that chasing is the better option here.
India will look to bounce back after that crushing loss in the opening ODI, however, it won’t be easy. The hosts are formidable on their own turf, and the touring side has had barely any time to adjust to the pace and bounce of these pitches. A stronger response from India is certainly on the cards, yet Australia hold the upper hand heading into this clash thanks to their form, familiarity, and overall balance.
Australia are our picks for the winners of the second ODI.
