As soon as the auctions for the IPL 2025 are over, all eyes are back on the Indian domestic T20 series. The 48th game of the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy will be played between Assam and Chandigarh at Dr. Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy ACA-VDCA Cricket Stadium on 27th November from 4:30 pm onwards. Both teams have won their respective games played in this season so far.
Assam played their first game against the Railways at Dr. PVG Raju ACA Sports Complex, Vizianagaram. Bowling first, Assam restricted the Railways to 127 for the loss of nine wickets. Mukhtar Hussain picked up four wickets for 18 in his four overs. Ruhinandan Pegu scored 35 runs in return to help Assam win the game by three wickets in the nineteenth over.
After beating Puducherry by five wickets in the first game, Chandigarh played against Vidarbha in the second. Batting first, Chandigarh scored 191 runs for the loss of nine wickets after Shivam Bhambri scored 75 runs off 40 deliveries. The defense became difficult for Chandigarh as Vidarbha’s Apoorv Wankhede scored 72 off 36 deliveries. Three wickets from Jagjit Singh and Raj Bawa helped Chandigarh register their second win by just five runs.
Both teams played against each other for the first time in the last season. Batting first, Assam scored 191 runs. Riyaan Parag scored 76 runs while Sandeep Sharma took three wickets in the first innings. Gaurav Puri (75) and Shivam Bhambri (61*) did what was needed to win the game for Chandigarh by six wickets with 13 balls left. Gaurav Puri and Bhambri's 99-run partnership was CHD's highest for the 4th wicket in T20s, breaking the record of 75 between Bipul Sharma and Bhambri.
It didn’t look like Assam was worried about not having Riyaan Parag in the squad. Swarupam Purkayastha will open the innings with Ruhinandan Pegu. Purkayastha has a strike rate of 82.09 which might put Assam in trouble. On the other hand, Pegu scored 35 runs in the first game. Skipper Denish Das will come at number three. Das scored 172 runs in the last season at a strike rate of 137.60. Against Chandigarh, he scored 42 off 36 balls in the losing cause.
Sumit Ghadigaonkar will come in the middle with Saahil Jain and Jitumoni Kalita. Ghadigaonkar scored 248 runs in the last season at a strike rate of 148.50 including two half-centuries. He will be the player to watch out for. The absence of Riyaan Parag has left a dip hole for Assam in the middle as Saahil Jain and Kalita lack the experience to play at this stage.
Akash Sengupta will lead the bowling attack with Mukhtar Hussain and Mrinmoy Dutta. Sengupta was their leading wicket-taker in the last season with 12 wickets at an average of 22. Hussain was the player of the match in the first wickets after claiming four wickets for eighteen while bowling a maiden over. Dutta, who claimed two wickets in the first game, had 6 wickets in the 9 games of the last season.

Vohra was their leading run sorcerer in the last season with 254 runs at a strike rate of 137.29. Shivam Bhambri will come at number three. Bhambri has two half-centuries(69 & 75) in the first two games. Bhambri scored 166 runs at a strike rate of 131 in the last season including a match-winning knock of 61* against Assam. He will be the batter to watch out for.
Raj Bawa will come in the middle with Bhagmender Lather and Gaurav Puri. Bawa has 101 runs in the first two games and has picked three wickets with the ball. All-rounder Lather will be the key for Chandigarh in the middle. In the last season, Lather’s strike rate was 140.98. He was their leading wicket-taker with the ball claiming 9 wickets in the 7 games at an economy of 7.91. Gaurav Puri will bring stability in the middle. Puri scored 201 runs in the last season at a strike rate of 148.88 - the highest among the Chandigarh batters.
Sandeep Sharma will once again lead the bowling unit with Jagjit Singh and Chiragvir Dhindsa. Sharma picked up two wickets in each of the games he played this season. He will be the bowler to watch out for. Singh also has four wickets in the first two games including three against Vidarbha. The issue with Chandigarh bowling is that none of the bowlers have managed to restrict runs in the first two games.

In 10 T20s played here, the team chasing the target has won on 7 occasions. The average first-innings score is 128 with the highest total of 209 registered by India against Australia. The team winning the toss should bowl first.
Though Assam has started their campaign with a win, Chandigarh will be a tough task for them. Chandigarh has two wins in the two games. Shivam Bhambri is having a great run with the bat and is experienced to play against Assam. The batting unit of Chandigarh will be difficult for Assam bowlers to handle.
