Afghanistan and United Arab Emirates will face-off in the 28th match of the 2026 ICC Men's T20 World Cup at Delhi. Afghanistan have dropped their first two games and slipped to fourth place in Group D. Another loss here would mean elimination from the tournament. UAE, meanwhile, have climbed to third spot after a win against Canada in their last match. Afghanistan have shown a better fight and produced superior cricket than the UAE. When you look at the overall team compositions, they enter this matchup as the favorites to come out on top.

Afghanistan find themselves in a tough spot after dropping both their opening matches. New Zealand handed them a five-wicket loss before South Africa broke their hearts with a second Super Over win after Afghanistan fell apart when it mattered most. This match is now a must-win if they want to stay in the Super 8 race.
The batting lineup hasn't found any rhythm, and that needs fixing fast. Rahmanullah Gurbaz has done most of the heavy lifting so far, putting up 111 runs across two innings with a strike rate of 173.43. His 84 off 42 balls against South Africa was exceptional, and the team will look to him once more at the top of the order.
Through the middle overs, Gulbadin Naib has chipped in nicely, accumulating 63 runs while striking at 170.27.
Darwish Rasooli and Azmatullah Omarzai have contributed when called upon, but haven't managed to do it regularly, which has damaged their chances of winning games. Mohammad Nabi's ability to hit hard late in the innings could make a real difference, and everyone expects the veteran all-rounder to produce another quick-fire knock in the death overs.
Azmatullah Omarzai spearheads the bowling attack and has performed well in this World Cup, taking four wickets across two matches, although his economy rate of 10.34 raises some questions. Rashid Khan's spin and Mujeeb Ur Rahman's variety add different dimensions to the attack, while Nabi brings additional control with his years of experience.
Rahmanullah Gurbaz Total Runs Over 24.5 @ 1.85
Gurbaz played a superb knock of 84 runs against South Africa but all in vain. Before that he scored 27 against New Zealand in the tournament opener. He is in good form this world cup and we predict his score to be over 24 runs.

UAE lost to New Zealand in their opening match but recovered well against Canada, pulling off a comfortable five-wicket victory where they reached a target of 151 with just two balls left. That said, Afghanistan presents a much harder test and won't go down without a fight.
The batting lineup must deliver against Afghanistan if UAE hopes to set a respectable score.
Aryansh Sharma has been their most reliable run-scorer in this competition, amassing 82 runs from two matches at a strike rate of 140. He typically builds his innings steadily until reaching 30 or 40 runs, then accelerates.
Captain Muhammad Waseem has found form as well, producing an excellent unbeaten 66 from 45 deliveries against New Zealand. Both he and Aryansh, along with Alishan Sharafu, have provided stability through the middle order. Alishan has been subdued so far and may adopt a more attacking approach during the middle overs this time.
The bowling department has depended heavily on Junaid Siddique, who has claimed five scalps but conceded at a steep economy of 10.25. Given this surface favors slower bowlers, Muhammad Farooq and Harshit Kaushik could create problems for Afghanistan's batting lineup during the middle overs through their spin, though this bowling unit overall lacks conviction.

Expect a generally dry and warm evening with temperatures likely in the mid-20s °C range and little to no rainfall forecast based on regional models. Skies should be mostly clear or partly cloudy, though air quality may be poor to very poor around that time of year, which could affect visibility and comfort. Winds are expected to be light to moderate, without any major weather disruptions.

Three matches have been played at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in the T20 World Cup, with first innings scores of 156-8, 209-9, and 150-7. This is generally a good batting wicket, but it will have something for the seamers and especially for the slower bowlers through the middle overs. If Afghanistan bats first, they might go for a target of around 190, while UAE would be more content with a 160-170 score.
If Afghanistan wins the toss, they might prefer to bat first this time, as they struggled with the chase last time out. UAE might be more comfortable with chasing as they won the last game batting second.
This match is do-or-die for Afghanistan, following back-to-back defeats, and losing here means their T20 World Cup journey is over. UAE have just beaten Canada and will arrive with plenty of confidence in their camp. That said, UAE's attack hasn't looked threatening enough, and players like Rahmanullah Gurbaz, Ibrahim Zadran, and Gulbadin Naib will fancy their chances of scoring big against them. While UAE have some batting depth, we don't see their bowlers doing enough damage unless something remarkable happens, so Afghanistan should get the job done.
